You must keep this component in great condition by performing regular maintenance and repairs. If your gearbox starts to fail, you must decide whether to repair or replace that component. On this site, I will lead you through these areas to help you take the best approach to keeping your vehicle safe and drivable.

Are you letting your teen and their friends head on a road trip, and you worry that something will happen with the car and then their trip won't be safe? If this is a serious concern of yours, there are a lot of different things that you want to do to prep the vehicle before they depart. Talk with the local auto experts and look into these different options:

New Tires

Check the tread on the tires, and if you have any concerns you want to replace them. If you can't afford to replace all the tires or if you aren't sure if all the tires need replaced, go into your local tire shop and have the tires maintained. You may be able to get away with just replacing the ones that look bald or bad.

Fluid-Check

Make sure that the automobile has all the proper fluid levels, and consider getting the oil changed if it's going to need to be changed throughout the trip, or shortly after they get back. You don't want a dilemma because of a problem that you could have solved while they were still at home, and while the vehicle was able to be worked on locally.

Battery Jump-Start Unit

You can buy a small generator that will jump-start a car if the battery goes dead. This comes in handy if any of the teens leave the lights in the car on, or happen to run the battery dead for any reason. This isn't just great for the trip, but something that they can keep with them for years into the future.

Spare Key

Have a spare key made, so there are no issues with the teens getting locked out of the vehicle. They could lose the keys or have the keys stolen, and having a key made and stored in a metal box under the car is a great way to prevent having to pay a locksmith.

Make sure that your teen has all of the auto insurance information with them in the car, in case they need to access it quickly. You want to make sure that the vehicle is ready to make the road trip with all of the passengers, and that your teen won't end up stranded on the side of the road. These are just some of the things that you can do, and the mechanic may have other suggestions for the long-distance trip.
